The sporting power couple got married in Sydney at an intimate ceremony and announced their nuptials on Instagram on Tuesday after a 16-month engagement.
Perry had a busy weekend, hitting the winning runs in the Sydney Sixers’ Women’s Big Bash League match against the Perth Scorchers at the SCG before tying the knot.
Perry scored 32 not out in the five-wicket win while Toomua played the role of his newly created group, the HABs or Husbands and Boyfriends.
Toomua has recruited Australian fast-bowler Mitchell Starc to his HABs crew as a rival group to the WAGs of men’s sport.
Toomua has even swapped his rugby boots for cricket pads, facing up to Perry in net sessions to help her training.
Her simple message on Instagram of “We got hitched!” reflected Perry and Toomua’s low key nature and reluctance to make a big deal of their relationship.
The pair met at Sydney Airport in 2012 with the Brumbies flying to Darwin for a pre-season Super Rugby match and Perry travelling to Melbourne for a women’s international cricket match.
Toomua was too nervous to approach Perry, who was playing in the W-League for Canberra United at the time.
The Brumbies and Wallabies playmaker called on Brumbies media man Elliot Woods to intervene while they were in the Qantas club. Woods obliged and asked Perry to pose for a photo with Toomua for the club’s Twitter account.
But rather than soak up the spotlight, the pair have preferred to keep their relationship away from media attention as they focus on their respective careers. We got hitched!A photo posted by Ellyse Perry (@ellyseperry) on Dec 21, 2015 at 8:24pm PST
