Federal Minister for Agriculture Joe Ludwig.FEDERAL Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig says while the government is supportive of foreign investment in agriculture, it is having a closer look at the rules.
The Minister used his Ministerial address at the NFF National Congress to recap some of his party’s policies on agriculture, including the National Food Plan, how it would develop opportunities in the Asian market, and the impact of foreign investment in agriculture.
Minister Ludwig said the government understood there was an increasing need for more transparent and accurate information, collation and provision, in regard to foreign investment, and had set up a working group to look at those issues.
He said the government had also listened to what the farming sector had to say about drought response measures and was in the process of implementing new reforms.
He said the package of reforms currently under consideration by the government and State Agriculture Ministers – would move drought management from a reactionary approach to one of “preparedness”.
